Herodias

Herodias, a Flamenco Ballet, with a stellar cast of international dancers and musicians, bringing to life a enduring story based on the novel Herodias by Gustave Flaubert, had its premier August 13-14, 2004 at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, Florida.

This production explores the story of Salome from the point view of her mother Herodias, wife of King Herod. The cast of Herodias featured flamenco sensation Siudy Garrido in the leading role of Salome, who also collaborated on the choreography with Ballet Flamenco La Rosa Artistic Director Ilisa Rosal, who danced the role of Herodias. Renowned star and First Dancer of the National Ballet of Spain Curillo de Bormujos danced the role of King Herod.

This magnificent work was created in collaboration with Harmonic Motion Middle Eastern Dance and Music Ensemble, creating original music with Flamenco Guitarist Diego Franco and Singer Johana Jimenez from Spain. The passionate vocals and exquisite instrumentation in both styles create a haunting and ageless resonance, and a backdrop for this powerful and dramatic story, complete with the dance of the seven veils in flamenco style.
