Directo al Corazón

As part of the Arte Flamenco Miami Festival, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa premiered Directo Al Corazón (Straight to the Heart), a Flamenco ballet by Artistic Director and Choreographer Ilisa Rosal in January, 2012.

Inspired by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, this cutting-edge work features world-renowned flamenco dancer La Truco and an international cast of musicians and dancers. Directed by Ilisa Rosal, La Truco, one of Spain’s most sought after female soloists, danced the role of Hedda, joined by the dynamic soloists Eloy Aguilar, Jose Moro and Fran Bas as well as guitarist Antonio Españadero and singer David Vasquez, direct from Spain, along with Joe Zeytoonian and Myriam Eli of Harmonic Motion Middle Eastern Music and Dance Ensemble, playing oud and percussion. Ballet Flamenco La Rosa brings to life the classic themes of love, ambition, isolation, frustration, passion, betrayal, life and death, using flamenco as a language to interpret the characters and relationships in this great play. This rich and complex work floods the senses and penetrates the soul with its extraordinary passion, wit and beauty as the story unfolds.

The Arte Flamenco Miami was a joint artistic venture by three of Miami’s best flamenco companies creating a festival that included three original programs – all world premieres - showcasing flamenco dance, guitar, and cante (singing).  Master classes were also offered with guest artists from Spain.
