Carmela Greco

Carmela Greco is one of the most respected Flamenco soloists, choreographers and instructors of her generation. She was recognized  by the Sección Córdoba del Consejo Internacional de la Danza of UNESCO as “Patrimonio Español”, is a member of  “Las Naciones Unidas de la Danza” and is President of The José Greco Foundation for Hispanic Dance.

Ms. Greco has been an instructor at the famous Centro de Arte Flamenco y Danza Española “Amor de Dios” in Madrid since 1986, teaching Flamencno dance to students at all levels. She has also performed since 1978 at most of Madrid’s most important Tablaos (Flamenco clubs), including Torres Bermejas, Café de Chinitas, Corral de la Morería, Los Canasteros, Corral de la Pacheca and Casa Patas.

Beginning in 2004, Ms. Greco had been giving workshops internationally at such schools as Centro de Danza Carla Luna in Los Ángeles, Centro Profesional de Danza Julia López in Philadelphia, Centro de Danza Latino in Nueva York, Joy of Motion Dance Center in Washington, D.C., National Institute of Flamenco in Albuquerque, Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, Centros de Flamenco de Japón in Osaka, Tokio, Matsuyama, Sendai, Yokohama, Kioto and Nagoya, Japan, Centro de Danza in Venezuela and Quito, Ecuador,  Centro Flamenco in París, France and Centro Flamenco in Milán, Italy.She had also given intensive Flamenco courses at conservatories such as Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Málaga, Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Almería, Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma  in Madrid and Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Murcia. From 2007-2014, Carmel Greco performed and choreographed “Cabo de Gata”, “Marismas”, “Cinco Tiempos para Amar”, “Devenir” and “Caireles” with Ensemble español.

In 2014, she choreographed for and performed with Antonio Canales “Juana La Loca” for Obras Maestras de La Danza Española. In 2011, she was Choreographer and Guest Artist for “Taketori” in. Nagoya, Japan. In 2010 and 2012, she was Guest Artist in Osaka, Japan for the production of “Miguelón y amigos con Carmela Greco”.

In 2008, Ms. Greco was Choreographer and Guest Artist for the production “De la Ópera al Flamenco” at the prestigious Festival de Jerez. In 2005,she was Guest Artist with the “Arte Flamenco” company for the production of “Raul Antologia” in Tokyo, Japan.

For the Bienal de Sevilla of 2004, in the production of “Orestes en Lisboa”, she performaned with Rafaela Carrasco, Alejandro Granados and with Manuel and Antonio Reyes, Directed by Paco Suárez. In 2001-2002, she touredthe most important theatres in Japan in the production of “Climax”, as Choreographer and Dancer in a homage to the Maestro y Choreographer José Greco. In 1999, she choreographed and performed in the production of “Raza” at the Teatro Bellas Artes in Madrid, and in Naples, in the opera “La Versiliana”.

In 1995, Ms. Greca performed as Guest Artist in the production of  “ Legado” at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami, Lincoln Center and the Joyce Theatre in New York and Jacob´s Pillow  in Massachusetts, and in 1984,  in “Amargo” with Mario Maya’s company at Teatro de la Comedia in Madrid. In 1980, she performed in “Andalucia en Pie” at the Teatro Villa Marta in Jerez and Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, along with Faico, Fosforito, La Susi and Chiquetete and directed by Don José Tamayo, in 1978 was Principal Dancer with the company of Luisillo and she performed in Ballet Antologia in 1972 under the direction of Luisillo.
